What We Sell:
Kate Madison Furniture & Antiques, LLC. sells custom-made, handcrafted
furnishing for the home or office. A team of expert craftspeople build
armoires, tables, chairs, buffets, beds, and desks inspired by 1880s French
Country furniture. Each piece is finished by hand with quality milk paint
for a distressed, antiqued appearance. All our products are built by experienced
craftsmen in a 25 year-old woodworking workshop in Quebec, Canada. Each
item is made of 100% premium pine wood milled in Canada.
French Country style is one of the most popular decors today. It is regularly
featured in magazines, books, and television shows. It's a return to basics
where people are looking for furniture that functions with "real
life" demands. It's a look that reflects simpler times, bringing
back farmhouse ambiance with a contemporary feel.
About
the Craftsmanship
All of the furniture is made of solid-wood milled, and constructed
in Quebec, Canada. A group of 19 carpenters and cabinet makers build each
piece to your specifications. The craftspeople make furniture of new and
old pine wood then finish it to have an antiqued appearance. Our items
feature expertly crafted crown moulding, beveled and raised panels, turned
legs, wood pulls, and custom-joinery.
* None of our products contain plywood or pressboard. Each piece
is crafted like it's one of a kind!
About Milk Paint Finishes
At Kate Madison we finish each piece with the highest-quality Milk Paint.
Milk paint was used to color furniture and interiors of houses during
the colonial period but, its origins date back to Ancient Egypt.
Colonist created the durable mixture out of milk protein, quicklime, and
earth pigments to create brilliant, and fade-resistant finishes. It's
a technique that's used today in fine furniture making. Each color is
rich in depth and authentically reflect an "antique" or "old
country" look.
Milk paint does not chip like regular paint. The texture and character
is also quite beautiful, it has a flat, course texture, and transparent
quality. Its shading gives it a custom quality that was common in furniture
of centuries past. Because of the lasting-color, many 100 year-old antiques
still have the same richness of color as when they were originally painted.
Some believe that milk paint gets richer the longer it ages. We take care
to finish your furniture because we believe that custom-made furniture
of today is an antique of tomorrow.

Kate Madison: Virtually Starting a Furniture Business, by Dan Mac Alpine, Melrose Free

" ...Overall, the 50 pieces in currently in the Madison line,
convey a sense of permanence and heft. The 90-degree angles, raised panel
doors and drawers, turned wood pulls, and crown moldings on the larger
pieces such as the armoires and cupboards seem to say, "Move me,
I dare you." This is definitely not on-the-go furniture."
